Newcastle United’s season has been something of a mixed picture.
Despite heavy investment last summer, they have struggled for consistency in the Premier League and currently sit in mid-table, while cup competitions have brought little joy aside from a run to the EFL Cup semi-finals.
In Europe, there were early signs of promise, but a heavy aggregate defeat to Barcelona ended their Champions League campaign in brutal fashion.
With uncertainty lingering, attention is already beginning to turn towards the summer — and now, one of their key players could be heading for the exit.
Gordon ‘Open’ to Leaving Newcastle
Anthony Gordon is reportedly considering his future at Newcastle United ahead of the summer transfer window, with growing indications that he would be willing to move on for the right opportunity.
While the winger has not formally asked to leave, there is a belief within the club that he is open to a new challenge, particularly with interest building from across England and Europe. Newcastle are said to be bracing themselves for early approaches, as Gordon looks to resolve his situation before the World Cup.
The England international — described as “excellent” by manager Eddie Howe — has delivered 17 goals this season, with many of his standout performances coming on the biggest stage in the Champions League. However, his domestic form has fluctuated, mirroring the team’s broader inconsistency.
According to The Telegraph, clubs including Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool are all believed to be monitoring his situation closely. Despite reports suggesting a £55-60 million valuation, Newcastle are understood to be holding out for a significantly higher fee, likely north of £80 million.
Internally, there is also a sense that Gordon may feel ready to take the next step in his career, both in terms of competing for major honours and securing improved personal terms.
With a long-term contract running until 2030, Newcastle remain in a strong negotiating position. But if interest intensifies in the coming months, this is a situation that could quickly gather pace — and losing one of their brightest attacking talents would only add to the challenges facing the club heading into a crucial summer.
If they do lose Gordon, Porto’s William Gomes has been touted has a potential replacement.
