With Manchester United off to such a good start in the Premier League this season, all eyes are firmly focused on the Old Trafford club and if they can bring the title back to Old Trafford for the first time since Alex Ferguson moved on.
Jose Mourinho looks to have got things right this season and his summer signings are gelling well thus far. The club are back in the Champions League, and got off to a superb start in midweek with a 3-0 win on their return to the big time.
The United fans here in the Tavern have been spending some time with our landlord this week though, and despite the plaudits surrounding Lukaku and Pogba so far, they believe that of equal importance are Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.
England international Rashford has developed into one of the top wide forwards in the world, while Frenchman Martial has taken his time to adjust to English football, but is looking like the real deal now.
Both players play in similar positions, and there will be many times this season where both players are not on the field at the same time. However, this is part of the joy of having both of these players on the books.
As we saw in United’s game against West Ham, Pablo Zabaleta found himself run ragged by Rashford for most of the game, with Martial then coming on to continue that trend for the full 90 minutes.
It is this option which gives United such a boost this term, and is one of the prime reasons that Rashford and Martial could well hold the key to United’s success this season.
