Manchester United just simply don’t look good enough to challenge for the Premier League this season at the moment, and that is dawning on our resident Red Devils fans here in the Transfer Tavern.

Of course, there’s a long way to go but the way they are playing and the way the teams at the top of the league are suggests it’s a gulf in class that cannot be overhauled in one year by Jose Mourinho’s men.

United did start the season off in positive mood but they’ve been battered for every performance and it already looks like it has taken its toll for this season.

It wouldn’t be a shock if United bounced back as they do have the players, but right now they are not performing how they can.

Nevertheless, Whoscored.com has compiled a list of the THREE best United stars so far this season…

Matteo Darmian – 7.57

We nearly fell off our bar stools here in the Transfer Tavern but, yes, Matteo Darmian has the highest rating of any Manchester United player this season.

He may have only played one Premier League game but it was obviously a decent performance from him as he shoots to the top of the leaderboard.

It says a lot about the rest of the squad’s efforts though.

Paul Pogba – 7.55

We nearly fell off our bar stools again when we saw that Pogba was second.

The Frenchman has been hammered pretty much non-stop since his return to Manchester United so it’s a shock to see him second on the list.

He’s got just the one goal to his name in the Premier League without any assists, but does have two man of the match awards – boosting his rating.

Daley Blind – 7.51

Mr. Dependable, well most of the time.

The Dutch international will play wherever he is told by Jose Mourinho and largely does a decent job regardless, reflected by being in this list.

He’s chalked up two Premier League assists in his nine appearances so far this season, and will be expected to help out wherever he’s need this season. At this rate, it could be up top.
