It’s looking set to be an interesting summer for the Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern. Since the arrival of Jose Mourinho, it has been a time for development at Old Trafford, and the spell leading into next season could be their most important in years.
Over the last few summers, a number of big names have moved to Old Trafford in an effort to speed up the rebuilding process. Now, it’s all about minor additions that can finally take them to the next level.
One player that would undoubtedly fall under that banner is Jorginho. According to the Independent, Man Utd are keen on bringing him to Old Trafford this summer in an effort to improve their midfield options.
On an immediate level, his signing would be huge for Man Utd. He’s one of Europe’s brightest midfield talents, and the brilliance of his defensive quality in addition to his creative nature makes him, in many ways, the complete midfielder.
However, his arrival would be of particular benefit to midfielder Nemanja Matic. The Serbian has suffered a dip in form over the second-half of the season, and it’s easy to see why. He is Man Utd’s only truly defensive midfielder that regularly plays, with other options like Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera lacking quality in that regard.
As a result, he often finds himself outmatched at the back, not to mention the toll that his constant running and hard work must be having on his overall stamina and fitness.
Jorginho could slot in perfectly alongside Matic, and he would allow Man Utd to remain creative whilst also adding further solidity to their defence. It would also take the pressure off of him to play every single week, with the Italian able to cover for Matic on occasion when required.
Indeed, a move for Jorginho would make perfect sense for Man Utd as a collective, whilst it could also take Matic’s game to the next level.
