Kieran Tierney is starting to receive a lot of praise from Arsenal supporters since the Premier League returned last month and this was emphasised by the fact that he picked up the fan-voted Player of the Month award for June.
On Wednesday night, he came up against fellow Scotsman Andy Robertson in the Gunners’ win over Liverpool and, with the two playing in the same position, there have been plenty of comparisons between the Scottish left-backs.
Robertson was speaking about these comparisons on Lockdown Tactics (via Metro) and said: “I’ve spoken to KT before and I think we’re both sick to death of the comparisons.
“He is a fantastic player. I watch him a lot and he’s excellent at what he does. He’s had his injury problems but he’s back now and looks really fit and special. ‘What would I do [if I was Scotland manager]? I honestly don’t know. That’s up to the manager.
“There’s a few ways of doing it. We’re just two players playing at a good level. Maybe it’s a conundrum for managers but there’s ways of doing it.”
This is very interesting to hear from Robertson and it is good that, despite them rivalling each other for the Scotland left-back slot and playing for opposing Premier League clubs, they still have a good rapport with each other.
The praise that the Liverpool star gives to Tierney should also excite Gunners fans, as Robertson was the first Scot to be nominated for the FIFPro World XI. He is also a Premier League and Champions League winner, so for him to heap praise on Tierney highlights how good a prospect Arsenal have on their hands.
Hopefully the 23-year-old can remain injury-free from hereon, as that has hindered his first season at Arsenal since joining from Celtic, and that the defender can continue the good form which has seen him being recognised for his contributions by the Emirates Stadium faithful.
