Bernd Leno has demanded the team ‘talk’ about how Arsenal managed to let a two-goal lead slip away to the Premier League’s bottom side Watford (via Goal).
The north London giants took a 2-0 lead after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang struck twice in a decent first-half for Unai Emery’s men.
However, the game was turned on its head in the second-half after mistakes from Sokratis and David Luiz ensured Watford took home a point.
The German goalkeeper described the feeling in the dressing immediately after the game, saying the players were going ‘crazy’.
He said: “I don’t know why it was like that but everybody could see that we have to talk about this. In the first half, it was better but not perfect. I think we have to be honest and analyse this game. We were lucky we didn’t lose.”
“Everybody was angry and disappointed after [the game]. Everybody was emotional, very mad and crazy. But that is normal.” (Source: Goal)
So why are Arsenal so poor away from home? Well, it’s beggars belief, especially when you compare their away record to their home record, you’d think they were two separate teams. Arsenal lost just two of their 19 home games last season, a stark contrast to the eight they lost away from home (via Soccerstats.com).
However, it’s the manner in which they lose or draw away from home which really strikes you. Arsenal have dropped the second-most points from winning positions away from home in the Premier League since the start of last season (via Twitter).
Leno is absolutely right to demand an inquest into Sunday’s second-half performance. This isn’t the first time lapses in concentration have cost the club this season, with Luiz making two mistakes in the 3-1 loss away to Liverpool (via The Sun).
Arsenal have been horrible away from home for over two seasons now, and it’s no surprise they have been playing in the Europa League as a result (via The Express). It’s clear that there are weaknesses running through the dressing room, and questions need to be asked as to why they exist.
