Alexis has excelled since arriving from Barcelona last summer in a £35m deal, scoring 25 goals in his inaugural season and adding a further seven this term from 14 appearances.
Now widely-regarded as one of the finest talents in the Premier League, Arsenal want the 26-year-old to sign a new deal to tie him down for a further five years; and subsequently move him ahead of Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil in the club’s pay-ranks.
World Cup winner Ozil is also poised for a new deal in North London but Alexis’ contract will see him earn more, firmly establishing him as the club’s best player.
Gunners supporters at the bar are pleased with the positive moves made by Arsenal’s hierarchy, firmly believing that the squad Arsene Wenger has quietly assembled is extremely capable of winning the Premier League.
