Arsenal fans are looking mortified here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they hear the latest quotes coming from Metro, who seem to think that their manager has gone a bit overboard in praising one of their forwards.
Ahead of the Gunners’ massive FA Cup clash with Manchester United – that could well define their season – Arsene Wenger was talking about Danny Welbeck who will be returning to Old Trafford after making the £16 million switch to the north London side last summer and all eyes will be on the England international.
Wenger, who may have been spending a bit too much time at the bar before making this comment, claimed: ‘Danny puts a big effort in, he plays very well for me and is an exceptional player who will have a great future here.’
Now as one of our punters notes, we cannot exactly say Welbeck is exceptional or anything that comes close really but at least he works hard.
