Metro have Arsenal fans looking up with a huge amount of interest here in the Football Transfer Tavern as Arsene Wenger made a couple of stunning claims about his transfer window plans.
The Arsenal boss, who has often been criticised for his lack of spending, came out fighting and claimed: ‘There is a huge difference between the perception that people have of me and [the reality]: I’m not scared to spend money,
‘If you go out with me one night, you will understand that.’
He also spoke about previous seasons gone by and noted that when the money was not available, he was reluctant to take the club into debt.
He added: ‘What I don’t like is to spend money that I don’t have.
‘Now I have money so no problem spending it at all. What I fought against was spending money that would have put the future of the club in danger.’
As one of our punters notes over a beer and burger at the bar next to our landlord, Wenger has been hesitant to spend cash in the past and given the amount of players who have been available and passed over, we are still dubious he will actually follow through on his comments this time.
