All eyes are firmly fixed on our large projector screen here in the Football Transfer Tavern tonight as our punters watch the final hours of the summer transfer window.
There is a big cheer and pints are raised in the bar as it is confirmed, at last, that a major deal has been completed.
News has arrived from the official Arsenal website that the Gunners have secured their first signing of this deadline day, with Sweden midfielder Kim Kallstrom joining the Gunners on loan for the rest of the season.
The 31-year-old has joined from Spartak Moscow and will act as back-up for an Arsenal midfield hit by a host of injuries as they mount a serious push to claim their first silverware for over eights years.
The Gunners were hoping to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler on deadline day, but the transfer negotiations haven’t progressed and it seems that any deal to bring the 20-year-old to the Emirates Stadium will have to wait until the summer.
Instead the former Lyon midfielder Kallstrom will now be a stop-gap as Arsene Wenger tries to bring added quality to his side ahead of the business end of the season.
With one transfer announced, we now wait to see if there will be any more activity at the Emirates before 11pm.
