Arsenal considering move for versatile six-goal forward rated at £17 million

Year after year, Arsenal fans plead for the club to sign a world-class striker to finally secure a long-awaited Premier League title— their first since the unbeaten 2003-04 season.

Yet, year after year, their requests go unanswered, as Mikel Arteta and the club’s decision-makers opt to bring in midfielders-turned-forwards, inverted wingers, and players with unsuccessful stints at other clubs. These choices have left fans frustrated as Arsenal struggles to challenge for the title due to a lack of consistent goal-scoring.

From Kai Havertz to Gabriel Jesus, Leandro Trossard, Nicolas Pépé, Raheem Sterling, and most recently, Mikel Merino, Arsenal’s signings have struggled to provide the goals needed.

The last time Arsenal signed a dedicated striker was in 2017/18 when they brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. However, suspicions arose that both were past their prime, and after a few solid but unspectacular seasons, they were eventually sold.

Now, with Arsenal again missing out on the title this season, how will they address their striking issues this summer? According to The Sun, the answer might not please fans.

The Sun report that Arsenal are considering a move for Paris Saint-Germain’s Lee Kang-in, having missed out on signing him in January. The versatile South Korean forward, who can play as a center-forward, second striker, winger, or attacking midfielder, has had an inconsistent season at PSG under Luis Enrique.

Lee has made 44 appearances across all competitions, though only 25 were as a starter. In that time, he’s scored six goals and registered six assists. One of those starts came in the Champions League, where Arsenal defeated PSG 2-0 in October’s new-look league phase.

Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, is reportedly eager to bring Lee to the Emirates and will encourage Arteta to make room for him in the squad. With PSG willing to sell for a fee of around £17 million—well within Arsenal’s budget—and Lee himself seeking more playing time, a move could happen soon, potentially ahead of Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Singapore and Hong Kong in July.

However, with just 12 contributions this season, fans may question whether signing Lee is truly the answer to Arsenal’s striker dilemma, or if he’ll turn out to be another Havertz, Trossard, Merino, or Sterling.
