Arsenal duo outlay demands as contract talks heat up

The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern want this issue resolved quickly…

Whilst Arsenal have impressed on the field this season, an off the field issue has tainted the Gunners’ season somewhat.

The issue surrounds the duo of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, both of whom have contracts that are set to expire within a couple of years – and both of whom Arsenal want to tie down to long-term deals.

Whilst the Gunners in the Tavern expected contract talks to be a mere formality, discussions have seemingly been ongoing all season – and with no announcement in sight, they are beginning to get seriously concerned that an agreement may never come.

A report this week by the Evening Standard will likely do very little to ease their concerns, with contract talks described as being at an “impasse” – with both Ozil and Sanchez reportedly making their hefty demands clear to the Arsenal brass.

The Evening Standard are reporting that both Sanchez and Ozil are demanding a wage hike in line with the likes of Paul Pogba at Man Utd – with currently earns around the £290k mark. Arsenal, on the other hand, are reportedly only willing to offer around £200k.

With neither side seemingly willing to budge, our landlord is expecting this saga to drag on all season long.

This news has caused a ripple of anxiety amongst the Arsenal fans in the Tavern, with many now fearing the worst. There is a huge gap between the £200k that Arsenal want, and the £290k that the attacking duo want – and so an agreement looks far away from competition.

It cannot be doubted just how influential the pair have been this season though, with Sanchez scoring 11 goals alongside 4 assists, and Ozil bagging 4 goals and 2 assists. Our landlord thinks that the Gunners just need to pay up…
