The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are still red with embarrassment after being humiliated 2-1 at home to Graham Potter’s defiant Ostersunds in the Europa League. More than a few Arsenal players have been accused of failing to live up to expectations despite the fact the Gooners advanced to the round of sixteen over the Swedish side 4-2 on aggregate, none more so than Calum Chambers.
Chambers didn’t have the easiest of evenings as he was adjudged to have put the ball into his own net midway through the fast half, giving the Swedish outsiders hope, although the goal has since been credited to Hosam Aiesh. It didn’t get better from there either as just 69 seconds later Chambers found himself outmuscled and outclassed by Ken Sema to see Arsenal trailing 2-0 on the night.
The 23-year-old won’t want to watch any replays of his first-half horror show when he wakes up this morning, but thanks to an early second half Sead Kolasinac goal, Arsenals shaky backline had some breathing room and managed to see out the rest of the game without further calamities.
The former Southampton defender will be feeling like it’s a chance missed to impress given the World Cup in Russia right around the corner. A number of English centre halves have failed to impress this campaign, leaving the door open for any late performer to potentially steal a place on the plane in June.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the reaction online.
Just watched the second Ostersunds goal again. Lovely bit of skill from the forward but Calum Chambers is showing him on to his left! What's he thinking?? He should be nowhere near the first team, he simply isn't good enough. Time to abandon that project and sell. #AFC

Calum Chambers. A poor mans Pascal Cygan. A descendant of Phillippe Senderos. Straight out of the Igor Stepanovs school of defending. A fraud. A basket case. An accident waiting to happen. An Arsenal first teamer. Embarrassing

Chambers has no confidence, doesn't look like the same player that signed for Arsenal.
