Some Arsenal fans were left bemused after reports in Brazil provided an update on Pablo Mari’s future in north London.
According to Coluna Do Flamengo, the Gunners have decided to exercise their option to make the Flamengo loanee’s temporary move a permanent one. The publication goes on to claim that the deal to sign the Spanish centre-half could reach €16m (roughly £13.6m) through performance bonuses.
Should the report be true, it would prove an incredibly baffling move from the Emirates Stadium outfit due to the fact that the £5.4m-rated (as per Transfermarkt) defender is yet to make his first team debut for Arsenal, with his last competitive appearance coming in the Club World Cup final against Liverpool back in December. The 26-year-old has featured in just one game for Arsenal and that was an under-23 fixture against Chelsea (via Transfermarkt).
