Arsenal fans have been expressing their disappointment after Sky Sports News updated them on the club’s chase of Southampton’s Cedric Soares.
According to the British publication, the Gunners are closing in on a move for the right-back, who has just six months left on his deal at St Mary’s stadium. It is also being reported that no new talks were being planned with the 28-year-old in terms of a new contract and that Mikel Arteta’s side are keen on strengthening their defence.
Soares has been ruled out of action after a tackle from Jairo Reidwald in the side’s win over Crystal Palace earlier this month (via Ninetyminutesonline). However, he has formed a key part of the south coast side’s defence this season, having appeared in 16 of his team’s last 24 Premier League games.
Fans were left feeling underwhelmed with a move for a player, who averages fewer interceptions per game than both Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin as they took to Twitter to react. Here is a selection of tweets from the Emirates Stadium faithful:

Cedric is an extremely strange signing. Can’t think of any kind of explanation for it as AMN has been great since Arteta was appointed and Bellerin is back. Only logical reason would be using AMN as a midfielder? But even then, he’s had minimal minutes there https://t.co/CAkF8XEBtZ
