Arsenal: Fans laud Shkodran Mustafi despite suffering heartbreaking defeat

Arsenal fans have been lauding Shkodran Mustafi for his display in their last-gasp defeat to Olympiakos last night.

Heading into the second-leg with a slender 1-0 lead, the Gunners were shocking from the first minute to the last as they came up against a resolute defence, eventually losing 2-1 after conceding a 119th-minute winner to the Greek giants (via BBC). However, there was one man who performed well despite all the poor performances around him and that was the Germany international. He proved to be a behemoth at the back as he won the most aerial challenges (6), made the joint-most interceptions (3) and the third-most clearances (2), as per WhoScored.

He was lavished with praise by football.london’s James Benge, who claimed the centre-back was the north London outfit’s best player ‘by a mile’. It seems as though supporters agreed with the journalist as they took to Twitter to compliment the player, who hasn’t always been a fan-favourite at the Emirates Stadium.
