Arsenal fans wished club legend Sol Campbell a happy birthday as the former defender turned 45 today.
The former Tottenham Hotspur man was part of one of the most controversial transfers in football history, according to Sportskeeda, when he joined north London rivals Arsenal on a free transfer in 2001 (via The Guardian).
The Englishman turned down offers from European sides Barcelona, Internazionale and Bayern Munich. The move to Arsenal proved fruitful as the former England international went on to win two Premier League titles and three FA Cups (via Transfermarkt).
The highlight of Campbell’s time at Arsenal proved to be the 2003/2004 Premier League season, where the north London giants went unbeaten throughout the whole campaign. The victory was made even sweeter when Arsenal clinched the title thanks to a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane (via BBC).
