The last couple of months have not been easy for Mesut Ozil. The German attacking midfielder has been scapegoated by his nation’s supporters for Germany’s early World Cup exit, despite the fact there were far more deserving players of criticism in the German squad.

Mesut Ozil had a very controversial summer, before the World Cup started he was pictured with Turkish president Erdogan and was slated in the German media. The former Los Blancos star has Turkish heritage despite growing up in Gelsenkirchen and having German family and his meeting with the Turkish leader was used as propaganda by some right-wing German outlets.
After the tournament, the German media failed to recognise all of the charity work that the 29-year-old had completed in Russia and instead blamed him for Die Mannschaft’s failings on the pitch. Whilst in Russia the Arsenal man funded 23 children with life-changing surgeries that they otherwise wouldn’t have had, however, pictures of him and Erdogan were all over the German media and have led to the megastar standing up against the racism he’s been receiving by retiring internationally.

Just from the tweets above it’s clear to see that the Arsenal fans have a lot of love and respect for Ozil and they’re not prepared to see him take the abuse and disrespect that the German media and people have been giving him.
