It was a frustrating Thursday night for Unai Emery’s Arsenal at the Emirates as they were held by Sporting Lisbon to a 0-0 draw in their Europa League clash, but the result has been overshadowed by the tragic injury of Gunners striker Danny Welbeck.
The England international went down in the 25th minute after charging onto a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross but went over his ankle in the process in a very bad manner, resulting in oxygen and a stretcher to be bought on, much to the downhearted reactions by Welbeck’s Arsenal teammates.
The 27-year-old left the field to a standing ovation with the Emirates chanting his name, but many Arsenal fans now fear that it could’ve been the final time they saw Welbeck in an Arsenal shirt with his contract set to expire at the end of the season and the length of his injury appearing to be an extended one.
Here are some of their Twitter reactions following the match:

Oh man, I’m so so gutted for Danny Welbeck.
I really hope the injury isn’t as bad as this picture makes it seem. pic.twitter.com/g9TO3kJfuK— Moh Haider (@ArsenalMoh8) November 8, 2018

Looking at Guendouzi’s reaction, it might be a fracture for Danny Welbeck…
So unlucky for him, he was finally finding some great form with Arsenal this season…

Regardless of what the result is, I think we can all agree that the main thing is that Welbeck returns to full fitness as soon as possible. Judging by the reactions of both himself and his teammates, it looked serious. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Danny! We’re all behind you.

I hope he isn’t out for long. He’s actually a key player.
