Arsenal fans were over the moon after David Ornstein provided an update on the club’s chase of Flamengo centre-back Pablo Mari.
The Athletic’s journalist reported that the north London outfit had agreed on a loan deal with an option to buy for the 26-year-old (via David Ornstein). However, the news surrounding the former Manchester City man was less than promising earlier this week after ESPN claimed that a deal to sign the defender had collapsed.
Arsenal are facing something of a crisis in central defence this season with a mixture of bad performances and injuries hampering their progress. Prior to Shkodran Mustafi’s fitness woes, Calum Chambers’ season was ended after he picked up a knee ligament injury against Chelsea last December. In terms of performances at the back this campaign, the Gunners have conceded the ninth-most goals in the division (34), showing considerable weaknesses (via Premier League).
Fans were thrilled with the update from the famed journalist, who is a cult hero among supporters (via The Sun), as they took to Twitter to react to the news. Here is a selection of tweets from the north London faithful:
