Arsenal have confirmed via their official website that former player Edu has returned to the club to take up the role as technical director, the first for the club.
Welcome home, Edu

The former midfielder, who was a member of Arsenal’s famous Invincible side, was previously working for Brazil during the Copa America but now takes up a new role at the Gunners as the north London side’s hierarchy aim to steer the club into the modern era of football.
Indeed, the Guardian even go as far as to suggest those behind the scenes at the club hope he will bring an element of the ‘old Arsenal’ back, bringing a ‘natural charm’. Reportedly asked to oversee the Gunners’ direction in the bigger picture, he joins former teammate Freddie Ljungberg as those working on the club’s staff who went undefeated in a league season under Arsene Wenger.
Of course, the appointment of a man who made over 100 appearances for the club as a player has seen many Arsenal supporters take to social media to praise the club for allowing Edu to fill out this newly created role, with reaction rife on Twitter.
