Arsenal fans took to Twitter to laud Mustafi after impressive Europa League outing

Plenty of Arsenal fans were left in awe of one player who usually makes clangers look enjoyable. Shkodran Mustafi is the man in question and he stepped up to the mark last night, grabbing both a goal and a clean sheet against an out-of-sorts BATE Borisov side and setting up a round-of-sixteen clash with Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais.

Arsenal were left thoroughly embarrassed in Belarus when they fell to a 1-0 loss in the first leg of their European tie. However, they quickly bounced back and put that defeat behind them with a 3-0 win last night. The scoring was opened after just five minutes when Zakhar Volkov put the ball in his own net, and on the stroke of half-time, the Gunners took the lead in the tie through a thumping Mustafi header.

The header from the corner was the ex-Valencia man’s third goal of the season after previously netting against Cardiff and Manchester United in the Premier League, although this was his first goal in Europe for the North London club. That kind of performance, with or without the goal, is what the fans expect from Mustafi on a more regular basis, even if the difference in quality between BATE and the Premier League is vast.
