Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Palmeiras midfielder Danilo, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Midfield priority

The Premier League leaders have had an impressive start to the season and they find themselves top of the table, although they crashed out of the Carabao Cup in midweek following a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton.

Recent reports have suggested that Edu is ready to financially back Mikel Arteta in the winter market, with new midfielders made a transfer priority, and the 21-year-old has been identified as one of two primary targets.

The Latest: Arsenal in talks with Danilo

According to 90min, Arsenal are ready to ‘push ahead’ with their interest in Danilo, alongside Leicester’s Youri Tielemans in January, but a deal for the Palmeiras gem is ‘much more likely’.

The Brazilian is believed to be in ‘talks’ over a move to the Gunners, with negotiations already at an ‘advanced stage’.

It’s stated that a deal could be ‘finalised’ before the window even opens, which would come as a ‘timely boost’ for the boss given the hectic run of fixtures heading into 2023.

The Verdict: Exciting prospect

Danilo has been dubbed a ‘technically gifted’ player by Jacek Kulig, and he would be a very exciting addition should he make the move to the Emirates Stadium.

The Brazilian talent has three goal contributions to his name this season, averaging 2.1 tackles and 1.1 shots per league game (WhoScored).

That tackling average would place him joint-second among Arsenal's squad, which shows that he is not averse to doing the unglamorous ball-winning work in the midfield engine room.

Danilo is a much more youthful option than Tielemans, and as someone who would be seen as a long-term signing, he has the potential to develop and become a household name for the Gunners in years to come.
