Arsenal: Gunners could try again for Moises Caicedo in summer - Arsenal News

Transfer expert Rudi Galetti says Arsenal could try again for Moises Caicedo this summer, but it depends on Albert Sambi Lokonga’s performances on loan.

The Lowdown: Failed bids

Arsenal reportedly had two bids rejected from Brighton & Hove Albion for Caicedo, before opting to sign Jorginho from Chelsea instead on Transfer Deadline Day.

They also loaned out Lokonga to Crystal Palace until the end of the season, so could be in line for another midfield shake-up come the summer.

The Latest: Another move in summer?

Taking to Twitter, Galetti says that Arsenal could try to sign Caicedo again in the summer, that may depend on the performances of Lokonga on loan:

“#Arsenal could try again for Moises #Caicedo in the summer.

“However, #Arteta will make a final decision on whether or not to go back in for #Brighton midfielder depending on the performances of Sambi Lokonga, now on loan at #CrystalPalace.”

The Verdict: Get it done

A top midfielder will be needed in the summer anyway, regardless of the future of Lokonga.

Mohamed Elneny is out injured for an extended period of time, while Thomas Partey has been known to be prone to injury in the past.

Caicedo has been a standout performer for a Brighton side pushing to qualify for Europe this season, as none of his team-mates have averaged more tackles per match (2.9) in the Premier League than him, while he also ranks highly for interceptions, key passes, long balls and through balls (WhoScored).

At just 21 years of age, his ceiling is still very high, and would be a natural long-term replacement for Partey, who is set to turn 30 in the summer.

Nonetheless, having tested the waters already in January, the Gunners should know roughly how much money it will take to prize him away from the Seagulls, and should look to pay it at all costs.
