Arsenal: Gunners ‘set to reach agreement’ over new William Saliba contract -Arsenal News

Transfer expert Rudy Galetti has revealed that Arsenal are ‘set to reach’ an ‘agreement’ to renew William Saliba’s contract.

The Lowdown: Initial talks

It was reported earlier this week that there have been some initial talks at the Emirates Stadium over the extension of Saliba’s deal.

He only has two years left on his current contract, and so this is one that the North London club really need to get done soon, at the risk of his value depreciating or potentially even seeing him leave on a free transfer if things really reached an impasse.

The Latest: Agreement

Taking to Twitter, Galetti has revealed that both parties are now ‘set to reach’ an ‘agreement’ over a new deal that will run until 2027, adding that Saliba is a ‘key player’ for Mikel Arteta:

“#Arsenal and #Saliba are set to reach agreement for the contract renewal until 2027.

“For the #AFC manager #Arteta, the French centre-back is a key player.”

The Verdict: Big boost

If Saliba signs a new contract, it will certainly be a big boost for Arteta and his team.

Chipping in with two goals and one assist from centre-back in the Premier League already this season, the 21-year-old has also ranked highly among his teammates in terms of aerial duels won and average tackles, clearances and blocks per game (WhoScored).

Nonetheless, after loaning him out for the last three campaigns, it has been refreshing for Gunners supporters to finally see him playing in the first team, and they will certainly not want to lose him so soon after seeing what he is capable of.
