Mesut Ozil has, undoubtedly, been the star of the show for Arsenal so far this season – and the Arsenal fans in the Tavern have proclaimed that he is one of Europe’s finest midfielders.
This is, seemingly, a statement that Arsenal legend Robert Pires agrees with – and in an interview with the official Arsenal website, Pires has lavished praise upon the German maestro.
Pires said: “Mesut has very good qualities…in my time the maestro was Dennis Bergkamp – and now it is Mesut Ozil”
He continued: “I love them both because they play very good football but they play for the team. Not for [themselves], they play for the team.”
The Frenchman also praised Ozil for adding goals to his game, stating: “This is a difference between the last season…when you are in front of the target it is very important to score a goal”.
Very high praise indeed…
The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been drawing comparisons between Mesut Ozil and Dennis Bergkamp over the last few weeks – and Ozil’s recent form would certainly seem to suggest that he is on a very similar path to the Arsenal legend.
Bergkamp’s tenure with Arsenal was, of course, far longer than Ozil’s has been thus far – but if the club and Ozil can sort out their contractual issues; the German is well on the way to becoming a club legend like the man himself.
