As the winter transfer window hurtles towards it final stages, excitement in the Football Transfer Tavern is just about reaching fever pitch with just hours left for Premier League teams to make those all important signings.
We are expecting some late activity at the Emirates Stadium as Arsene Wenger looks to build on his side’s fine first half of the season, and today’s Daily Star indicates that the Gunners could be set for another massive deadline day deal.
In the summer Real Madrid playmaker Mesut Ozil joined in a club record transfer and today’s speculation suggests that there is still hope that Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler could be this window’s transfer coup.
The paper reports that Arsenal have now submitted one final offer for Draxler, worth £24.7 million as they try desperately to land the talented German international.
The 20-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and with a formal offer reportedly on the table, Gunners supporters in the bar are hoping that they could see the impressive youngster pulling on the famous red Arsenal jersey in the very near future.
The Bundesliga club are thought to want Arsenal to trigger his £37 million release clause, but Wenger is not willing to go this high, although there was talk in the bar that Lukas Podolski could be included to sweeten the deal.
Wenger has plans to mould Draxler into a Thierry Henry-style striker if he can complete the transfer, although there could be late interest from elsewhere in Europe with Bayern Munich thought to keeping an eye on the Schalke starlet.
It is thought that Draxler would be interested in a move to the Premier League and now it is up the two club’s to agree on an acceptable fee for playmaker before the transfer window slams shut.
