Arsenal & Manchester United on red alert after failed swoop

cabaye.jpgIt’s happy hour in the Football Transfer Tavern and that has seen the bar fill up with punters enjoying the end of another working week.

Attention is now firmly fixed upon breaking transfer speculation from Metro over the future of Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye.

The paper reports that both Manchester United and Arsenal could compete for the Magpies midfielder after his proposed switch to Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain appears to have hit the rocks.

Punters had fully expected the 28-year-old to return to his native France in a £21 million deal, after interest with confirmed by PSG boss Laurent Blanc.

However after considering any offers on the table, the former Lille star has reportedly had second thoughts and could now remain in the Premier League.

This could see renewed interest from Old Trafford and the Emirates Stadium, with both clubs reportedly keeping tabs on his future.

Of course, Gunners fans remember when he was heavily rumoured with a switch to the club in the summer, before the Magpies took a stand to hold onto their star midfielder.

However Arsene Wenger could now revive his interest with United boss David Moyes also considering a move for the impressive Frenchman.

Alan Pardew’s side want to keep Cabaye until at least the summer, but any interest from the top Premier League sides could see his head turned again.

The Magpies have already lined up a long-term replacement in the form of Montpellier’s Remy Cabella, but he is unlikely to be made available until the end of the current season.
