Arsenal: Matteo Guendouzi was a key cog in Unai Emery’s midfield yesterday

Arsenal narrowly overcame Bournemouth 1-0 in their Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium yesterday, with one midfielder going under the radar with a solid performance.

David Luiz scored the only goal of the game after heading in from a corner from summer signing Nicolas Pepe (via BBC).

Calum Chambers proved to be the man to make the difference, as he made a superb clearance just yards from the goal line in the second half. The Englishman enjoyed a fine second half, attempting the most tackles and making the second-most clearances in a good defensive display (via WhoScored).

Luiz also put in a brilliant performance, as he scored his first goal in an Arsenal shirt. The Brazilian defender also made the joint-most interceptions and was one of only four players not to have made a foul during the game (via WhoScored).

However, it was the £40.5m-rated (per Transfermarkt) Matteo Guendouzi who seemed to go unnoticed with his performance in the middle of the park for the Gunners. The France youth international had the third-most touches of any Arsenal player, attempting three dribbles and completing 81% of his passes.

The youngster also played his part defensively, making the third-most clearances and the joint-most blocks, in a well-rounded display (via WhoScored).

Football.london agreed as they gave Guedouzi a seven out of 10, commenting on his attitude and ability.

They said: “Yet another game you left admiring Guendouzi’s attitude as much as his technical abilities.”

“He surely covered more ground than any player on the park as he linked the Arsenal frontline with their defence, making telling tackles and interceptions in his own half and keeping moves going in the other.” (Source: football.london)
