Arsenal missed out on ‘close’ defender deal over the summer

The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern had to wait until the closing stages of the transfer window before making any real progress over the summer…

Last minute acquisitions of Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez added a little bit of shine to an otherwise disappointing window for the Gunners.

Many of the Arsenal fans in the Tavern felt that it could have been so much better – and apparently; they were right…

As per Le Parisien, Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe was close to a move to Arsenal over the summer before he put the breaks on the deal.

Speaking about the move, via Le Parisien, Sidibe said: “I was really close to signing…but after thinking about it, I wasn’t certain that I would get playing time.”

However, he did not close the book on a deal in the future, stating: “I preferred to stay in Ligue 1…and leave for the Premier League next year”.

The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed that a deal is not on the cards imminently – but there is still hope for the future.

If Arsene Wenger is still keen next year, it would appear that a deal could be done.

Sidibe is currently 24, and chose to sign with Monaco over the summer as opposed to Arsenal. For his previous club, Lille, he played 96 times over 4 years – scoring an impressive 7 goals.

He has continued his fine form this season, having already bagged a goal and 3 appearances so far.

Our landlord is backing him for big things…
