Arsenal reportedly keen on ‘ambitious’ move for 21-year-old as Wenger looks to turn season around

It has been a horror start to the season for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern…

A comprehensive defeat against Liverpool over the weekend has brought the panic back at the Emirates, with supporters now fearing the worst ahead of another two years under Arsene Wenger.

In truth, there’s very little to smile about at present if you’re an Arsenal fan, but a recent report from Transfer Market Web should at least provide a slight sense of optimism.

According to Transfer Market Web, Arsenal are keen on an ‘ambitious’ move for Real Madrid breakout star Marco Asensio, who has enjoyed a fantastic start to the La Liga season. The player, though, is said to be happy to stay in Madrid.

He has frequently featured and often impressed under Zidane this term, and unsurprisingly this has generated a long list of admirers, particularly in the Transfer Tavern.

Arsenal’s defeats at both Stoke and Liverpool have proven that they remain some way off where they want to be, with the Arsenal of old unlikely to allow back-to-back defeats in such disappointing fashion.

A move for a big player like Asensio would certainly offer a reason for optimism at the Emirates.

Landlord’s Verdict

Asensio is quickly emerging as one of Europe’s brightest young talents, and Wenger clearly recognises his quality.

However, his quality will come at a premium, and given the extortionate fees being paid for the likes of Neymar and Ousmane Dembele, it seems obvious that a move for the Spaniard would likely demand a similar price tag.

For that reason, and the simple fact that Real Madrid will not want to lose a player of his quality, it seems highly unlikely that a deal will be agreed – but Arsenal appear resolute in their interest.
