The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty happy with the attacking options at the disposal of Arsene Wenger. The capture of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is likely to take their forward line to the next level, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan will make things easier too.
However, despite the firepower currently on display, it doesn’t appear as though Arsene Wenger is entirely happy quite yet.
Benzema has had a very tough season this term, as Diario Gol report, and that has led to some speculation over his future.
Granted, his form has been poor – having bagged just 2 league goals this term – but there is no arguing with how talented he is. He’s been a consistent performer for much of his career, and he’s won 3 UEFA Champions League (UCL) titles during that time. You don’t win that much silverware if you’re a poor player.
For Arsenal, then, in terms of raw quality. a player like Benzema would be a good fit. Not to mention, his high work-rate will likely endear him to Arsene Wenger.
Landlord’s Verdict
If Wenger is truly such a fan of Benzema, this will come as a blow to him.
However, that being said, do they really need another forward? In Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they have two of Europe’s best attackers, and whether another is needed remains to be seen. Perhaps their funds could be better invested elsewhere.
That being said, another poor few months could see that asking price dip, and so perhaps Arsenal should revisit their interest in the summer.
