Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are shaking their heads at the news coming from Metro, who seem to think that there is a smoking culture at the north London club.
Now that does not really come as a massive shock to us given Jack Wilshere became the latest in a line of players caught smoking for the third time in 18 months and was forced to spend some time on the naughty step – but what we are surprised at is the fact that Olivier Giroud has admitted it – and claimed it is not a problem!
The forward claimed: ‘In every team there are four or five. It doesn’t shock me. In rugby, they also smoke. And nobody is shocked.’
As one of our punters notes, we cannot see manager Arsene Wenger being too happy at the comments from the forward, especially given the stance the Frenchman has taken over his players smoking and the fact he has made it very clear to the media that it is a problem.
We think that while there are obviously a few footballers who enjoy a cheeky smoke, it is certainly not ideal and given they are role models and professionals, if they have to do it, they should keep it under wraps and we are pretty sure Mr Wenger will agree!
