The Daily Mail seem to think that Arsenal fans have something to smile about here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim Mesut Ozil wants to remain at the club.
Ozil has struggled this season and not only have injuries hampered him, he has also been accused of going missing on more than one occasion – but the talent is there and despite rumours linking him with a return to his homeland, Ozil seems to want to stay with the Gunners and prove he can cut it in the top flight of English football.
Ozil claimed: ‘A return to Germany is not an option for me right now. I am really happy at Arsenal and I want this to continue.
‘I played in the Bundesliga and at Real Madrid. But the English Premier League is the strongest league in the world. Opponents never give up.’
We think that on his day, Ozil is world class, but as our regulars note over a game of pool and a couple of shots with our landlord, we think that those days are too few and far between – and that Ozil needs to be at the top of his game far more often.
