Arsenal’s season has regained momentum in the Champions League following a 1-0 first-leg win over Sporting Lisbon in the quarter-finals.
After a challenging period that included losing the EFL Cup final and an early FA Cup exit, the Gunners now carry a slight advantage to the Emirates for the second leg.
While the Premier League and European ambitions remain front and centre, Arsenal are also quietly turning their attention to the summer transfer market, particularly in defence.
Arsenal “Looking Closely” at Victor Valdepenas
Arsenal are reportedly intensifying their interest in Real Madrid centre-back Victor Valdepeñas as they plan for the long-term succession of Gabriel Magalhães.
Sources with knowledge of the club’s scouting operations say the Gunners see the 20-year-old as an ideal candidate to eventually partner William Saliba and provide a future replacement for the 28-year-old Brazilian.
“Arsenal are looking very closely at Valdepeñas and Ramon this summer,” a source told CaughtOffside. “Their scouts have watched them several times and the feedback has been really positive. Arteta wants a young centre-back that can eventually become Gabriel’s replacement to partner Saliba.”
Valdepeñas made his senior Real Madrid debut on 14 December 2025 in a league win against Alavés, playing 78 minutes. He has also represented Spain at Under-19 level and is highly regarded for his composure, tactical awareness, and defensive versatility.
