This morning, the Daily Mirror had Arsenal fans looking up smugly here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it seemed the Gunners were handed a massive boost in their chase for Winston Reid.
The West Ham United defender is of course out of contract in the summer and it was reported that the New Zealand international had made it clear to his current club that should Arsenal make a bid for him that matches the £8 million valuation the Hammers seem to have put on his head, he wanted to be allowed a departure.
At this stage, our resident Gooners were apparently in the clear that Reid would not sign a new Hammers contract with the East Londoners who would subsequently have had to cash in to avoid selling him on a free transfer in the summer.
But by this afternoon, our West Ham United supporting punters were taking the mickey out of our Arsenal regulars after Reid himself took to Twitter to categorically quash rumours of a January Emirates Stadium switch.
Putting it bluntly, Reid tweeted the following…
Whoever Wrote that story of me today is not true. Well done
— Winston Reid (@WinstonReid2) January 20, 2015
The furore surrounding Reid is quickly turning into a bit of a tedious saga according to some and our more skeptical regulars claim we probably haven’t heard the last of Arsenal’s interest just yet.
