Former Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton has been disappointed with the performances of Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet this season.
The duo have been regulars in Dean Smith’s side so far. El Ghazi has made 11 Premier League appearances including nine starts (Transfermarkt), whilst Trezeguet has also played 11 times with eight starts to his name (Transfermarkt).
However, despite featuring plenty of times for the Villans in the league, Hutton believes that the pair haven’t performed at their best this term and admitted that he wants to see bigger contributions from them.
Speaking to Football Insider about the two wingers, Hutton said: “I think I would like to see a little bit more from the wide men, to be honest.
“They come with so much promise, obviously I know Anwar and I know how good he can be. I’ve trained with him every day, he’s taken me on, we’ve played attack versus defence and I know how lethal he can be. I’d just like to see a bit more.
“Trezeguet on the other side, came with a big reputation, the boys were really excited when they watched him in training. They’re definitely capable of more.”
Whilst both players have made contributions, Hutton is right in saying that they are capable of doing more.
Villa usually line up with a 4-3-3 formation (Transfermarkt), which sees the duo either side of striker Wesley in a front three and, therefore, they are expected to chip in with their fair share of goals and assists.
So far Trezeguet has scored just two goals and provided one assist in 11 games which is ok (Transfermarkt), but he is certainly capable of more – he netted nine times and provided 10 assists last season for Kasimpasa (Transfermarkt).
As for El Ghazi, he has two goals and three assists to his name and therefore is actually almost averaging a goal involvement every other game (Transfermarkt).
However, Hutton knows more than most how good the Dutchman can be having played and trained with him last season, so it is easy to understand why he wants to see the winger deliver even more.
