Aston Villa: Claret and Blues fans love John McGinn’s announcement

Lots of Aston Villa supporters reacted to the news that John McGinn will be representing the Lions in the ePremier League Invitational FIFA 20 tournament.

As fans around the world try to fill the void left by the beautiful game due to the ongoing pandemic, many clubs have turned to esports to try and provide some entertainment in these uncertain times.

In this latest edition, some of football’s biggest stars will be going head to head in a knockout competition, with all the proceeds being donated to the #PlayersTogether initiative.

McGinn will be playing against the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Raheem Sterling, Wilfried Zaha, and Diogo Jota.

After arriving at Villa Park from Hibernian FC in August 2018 for just £2.79m, the Scotsman has scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists in 18 appearances in the English top flight for Dean Smith’s side, averaging 2.1 shots per game, completing 1.5 key passes, and making 2.3 dribbles on average so far (WhoScored). His current market value is estimated at £14.4m via Transfermarkt.

Predictably, plenty of the Claret and Blue faithful adored the 25-year-old’s announcement, with one tweeting “up the meatball,” and another adding “collect that dub Ginny.”
