Aston Villa have enquired about Coventry City midfielder Tom Bayliss, according to Football Insider.
Huddersfield Town and Derby County are also interested in signing the 20-year-old, who has already amassed 73 games in a Coventry shirt, scoring nine goals and assisting seven.
Coventry are reportedly resigned to the fact they will lose the England U19 international this summer.
Bayliss started 39 games in all competitions last season, coming on as a substitute twice, scoring three goals and assisting thrice more.
When speaking to The Chronicle, Coventry Live’s Coventry City reporter Andy Turner said of Bayliss: “He has a very mature head on young shoulders and very little fazes him – a great example of that being when he played and performed well in huge pressure games in the League Two play-off semi-finals and the final at Wembley Stadium.”
While stating he can get there, Turner didn’t feel Bayliss is quite ready for the Premier League: “Although he burst onto the Sky Blues scene aged 18 in December 2017, scoring within two minutes of his league debut and commanding a place in the side pretty much ever since (including playing a key role in the club’s promotion via the League Two play-offs) his form has plateaued out a bit in his second full season.”
Bayliss is a talented player, who Villa would do well to sign considering how much potential he has to grow as a player.
However, it may be detrimental to the 20-year-old’s development to take the hit in game time a move to Villa Park would likely entail.
Therefore it could be a good idea for Villa to sign the young Englishman and loan him to a Championship side. There, he is likely to get more minutes, which could ready him for the Midlands club later down the line.
