For a player that has only made eight appearances this campaign, Conor Hourihane sure has the backing from a lot of Villa fans.
The 28-year-old Irishman was backed to start last night against Newcastle United and it turned out to be the right choice from Dean Smith as he picked up a goal and an assist as they ran out 2-0 winners.

Despite only having five starts so far this campaign, he has managed to pick up two goals and two assists from midfield. Furthermore, he has managed to make 1.5 key passes-per-match as well as have a 88 per cent pass success rate, per stats from SofaScore.
The ability that the former Barnsley midfielder possesses from set-pieces is enough to make many sides worry. Considering that he managed to curl a free-kick in last night and set up one on a plate for Anwar El Ghazi, Hourihane must surely be giving his manager a real headache about his ideal midfield three.
Lots of fans were in awe of Hourihane, with many comparing his ‘wand’ of a left peg to that of Lionel Messi’s.
