Taking nothing away from Aston Villa’s mauling of a second-string version of league leaders Liverpool in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, the home fans were delighted with the performance of goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, who kept a clean sheet in the 5-0 success.

Liverpool’s younger contingent dominated possession and out-shot Dean Smith’s side despite the one-sided scoreline.
Nyland had only made one senior appearance prior to Villa’s midweek victory, when he came on as a substitute in their 2-1 defeat at Wolves in November.
However, the Norwegian ‘keeper made eight saves, while he was named as the game’s best player by achieving the highest rating of any player by WhoScored.
Fans appeared to be in agreement by lauding the goalkeeper for his performance after helping to secure Villa’s place in the semi-finals, with supporters offering plenty of kind words following the 29-year-old’s display.
