Loads of Aston Villa fans have been lauding new signing Pepe Reina after he pulled off an incredible save in the club’s 2-1 win over Watford, with one supporter describing him as a “wizard”.
The Spanish goalkeeper managed to prevent Troy Deeney from finding the back of the net for a second time on the night with an improvised save with his leg to keep his side in the game. Douglas Luiz later equalised before Tyrone Mings’ deflected home Ezri Konsa’s powerful shot to secure the three points for Villa.
Following such a dramatic end to the game, you could forgive those associated with the club for forgetting about Reina’s save. But that has not been the case, with both Villa’s social media team and supporters taking to Twitter to praise the 37-year-old.
Next up for Reina and Villa is the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie against Leicester City.
You can have a look at what fans have been saying about their new hero below…
Like a cross between Mark Bosnich and Gordon Cowans. A privilege to see him in a Villa shirt, even at this stage of his career.
