Aston Villa: Fans like the sound of Olivier Giroud move

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to news that the club are interested in signing Olivier Giroud, and it has become quite apparent that he would be a welcome addition.

With Wesley sidelined with a serious knee injury, Villa fans are desperate to see a new forward arrive this month and some see the Chelsea striker as the perfect man.

Giroud has been an outcast at Stamford Bridge this season, starting just two games in the Premier League. He did not even feature for the west London club yesterday in their 2-0 FA Cup triumph over Nottingham Forest, and his manager Frank Lampard has since confirmed that he could leave this transfer window if the conditions are right.

“If the conditions are that it’s something he really wants to do [leave] and it works for the club, for me and the squad then it’s something that could happen,” Lampard was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

While he has made little impact this term, Giroud was influential in the Blues’ Europa League win in the previous campaign. The Frenchman finished the tournament as top scorer with 11 goals and even managed to net the crucial opener in the final against his former club Arsenal.

Giroud is a much better target man than Wesley. Giroud will actually move into space and make it hard for defenders to mark him. Wesley didn’t do this.
