Aston Villa fans have all been breathing a serious sigh of relief after being given the news, via Mat Kendrick of the Birmingham Mail, that Tyrone Mings won’t be facing retrospective action for his stamp on Reading’s Nelson Oliveira. Villa’s new signing can count himself lucky to have avoided a ban after the incident was deemed an accident.

The pictures of Nelson Oliveira’s face after the stamp certainly aren’t for the squeamish and it truly is something that shouldn’t have happened. With Mings and Oliveira both tussling for a loose ball, the Reading man went down just for Mings to tumble over him and leave his boot in the striker’s face. The game was immediately stopped as Oliveira received treatment, but Mings has not been punished for it.
The Villains are all buzzing to see that Mings will be available for selection as usual when they face Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, yet some of them feared the worst. At full speed and given the reaction of Mings after the incident, it seems clear that the stamp was accidental, even if rival fans are far from happy that he hasn’t been sanctioned.
