Aston Villa: Fans react as Edens report resurfaces

Aston Villa's Villa Park

Plenty of Aston Villa fans have been reacting to a post on social media regarding co-owner Wes Edens.

Back in December, Edens brokered a reported $228.2 million deal for Milwaukee Bucks’ star player Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Edens, who has co-owned the basketball side since 2014, agreed around $45.6 million per annum with Antetokounmpo – the largest NBA contract in history.

@Avillafan writer @johntownley11 relayed this on Twitter on Thursday afternoon, as well as stating NSWE’s combined wealth is only topped by Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour and Chelsea financial giant Roman Abramovich.

Villa big spenders

Villa have spent big during the current campaign, splashing out £88.34m. Ollie Watkins joined for a club-record fee, while Bertrand Traore, Emiliano Martinez, Matty Cash and Morgan Sanson all arrived in eight-figure deals.

Townley included his feature on Edens prior to the current campaign, and his Twitter post got plenty of Villa fans dreaming of what could be in the Midlands.

“Take in the whole Sawiris family (who invest in NNS, the family vehicle through which Nassef bought his share of Villa) and the resources of Softbank/Fortress (who back many of Wes Edens’ projects) and I reckon Villa have access to far more financial resources than you think.”

In other news: 26-year-old Villa man is unlikely to get another chance to feature for the club, find out more here.
