Aston Villa: Fans react as Jeff Hendrick offered to Dean Smith

Many Aston Villa fans have reacted to a report claiming Jeff Hendrick has been offered to the club after seeing his contract come to an end with Burnley.

With the 2019/2020 season done and dusted, Villa boss Dean Smith will be keen to explore the summer transfer window and potentially bolster his squad options.

Having struggled for consistency, Villa remained in the Premier League courtesy of a final day draw against West Ham United and Smith will undoubtedly look to sign players who can provide a security and consistency on a weekly basis.

One potential summer arrival that has emerged over the last 24 hours is former Burnley midfielder Hendrick, who is now available on a free transfer.

The Republic of Ireland international is valued at £8.1million by Transfermarkt and Lee Ryder of Chronicle LIVE has now claimed that the player’s representatives have offered him to Villa.

#nufc backroom team have been told to continue recruitment drive by current regime. Representatives of Jeff Hendrick have offered player to #nufc and Aston Villa. Hendrick left Burnley in January and was wanted by AC Milan at one stage.

Ryder’s report goes on to add that Hendrick has also been offered to Newcastle United, whilst AC Milan have previously shown interest in the 28-year-old.

Reacting to the report via Twitter account @villareport, fans gave their opinion on the midfielder’s potential arrival and it seems they would be happy to see him at Villa Park. They feel he would be a solid addition given his Premier League experience, he has played 122 games in the top flight in his career, and the fact that he wouldn’t cost them a fee.

Not only does he provide experience and midfield cover, but he also doesn’t take anything from our budget. 100% a deal worth doing

wouldn’t really improve our side, but would make for great depth which we desperately need, plus some much needed premier league experience. Hopefully Brentford don’t get promoted and we can follow this up with Benhrama and maybe Watkins, UTV.

Prem experience and a better option off the bench than Lansbury so for free I’d definitely take him

We need squad players with experience and who could do a job when called upon. Games are going to be thick and fast this season.

Great touch & vision. Passing & work ethic really good too. On a free I’d be very happy. Prem & international experience, worked under good coaches. Would be shrewd business to get him on a good contract. Worse comes to very worse good Championship player too. Squad depth is key.

Replacement for Lansbury, would probably get more game time as well. No brainer if we can get him on a free.
