Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane has made a claim regarding the future of club captain Jack Grealish, prompting fans to respond.
Grealish has arguably been their best player this season, contributing to Dean Smith’s side with seven goals and six assists.
With such consistent and good performances, the former England U21 international has gained interest from a number of clubs in the Premier League, with both Manchester United and Everton leading the list of potential suitors.
Speculation continues to mount over Grealish’s future at Villa Park, and teammate Hourihane has now added his thoughts into the mix.
Hourihane, who has struggled for regular playing time this season with Villa, told The Southern Star Podcast that he believed Grealish had ‘outgrown’ Villa and needed to move to a bigger club.
The midfielder’s comments come at a time where Villa’s Premier League future is up for debate, sitting 19th in the Premier League table as things are postponed due to the recent pandemic.
Reacting to the comments made by Hourihane via Twitter account Aston Villa News, fans responded. One even suggested that his comments were “shocking“:
Don’t say that, Conor! 😢 #AVFC https://t.co/u051CKARCr

Perhaps we should focus on making ‘this’ Aston Villa team good enough by moving on Championship quality like Hourihane and replacing it with players closer to Jacks ability.

We all know Grealish is too good for these bunch of players but for one to come out and say it – career suicide. Sorry Hourihane but you’ve had a mare here lad.

This is a really daft thing to say. Reminds me of Patrick Berger advising Gareth Barry to leave. Seen players not recover for making comments like this – Villa fans don’t take well to this sort of stuff at all. 😡

Hourihane should be more concerned about his own game.

Absolute shocking stuff, hope he finds a new club
