Many Aston Villa fans have reacted after the 1-1 draw with Everton yesterday evening which put the club in a difficult position to keep their Premier League status alive.
After beating Crystal Palace 2-0 at the weekend, Villa travelled to Merseyside to take on Carlo Ancelotti’s mid-table Everton side.
A rather tentative opening 60 minutes saw the visitors have the lion’s share of chances and they managed to get themselves in front with 20 minutes remaining on the clock when Ezri Konsa tapped home Conor Hourihane’s delightful free-kick. Villa looked like they were set for a second consecutive win and clean sheet, but a header from substitute Theo Walcott eluded both Konsa and goalkeeper Pepe Reina.
The draw left Villa in to 19th position below Bournemouth and sitting three points off Watford and West Ham United, who meet each other tonight. Following the game, Dean Smith’s spoke to reporters, with Villa’s official Twitter account sharing his words via video footage, as he insisted that his team played the better of the two at Goodison Park and rued missed chances but praised his players’ efforts.
Responding to Smith’s thoughts on the game, many Villa fans reacted negatively, seemingly preparing themselves for the drop:
