Share

Many Aston Villa fans have responded to a transfer report linking Benfica winger Franco Cervi with a summer move to the club.

Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Notícias, as cited by Sport Witness, claim that Villa have joined a long list of clubs showing interest in a summer move for the 26-year-old. With Villa boss Dean Smith seemingly keen to bolster his squad options next season, the report offers a potential new attacking winger for the Claret and Blue.

Villa managed to fight off the threat of relegation last season and will now hope to improve next term in what will be a second successive season in England’s top flight since gaining promotion in 2019.

The report added that Benfica are willing to allow Cervi to leave the club for a transfer fee of around £13.5m. Spanish side Celta Vigo and Turkish club Besiktas are also said to be interested in Cervi, who bagged two goals and one assist in 23 appearances for the Eagles last term.

Responding to the transfer news which was shared by @villareport, many Villa fans gave their opinions on Twitter, with one fan calling him the “Argentinian Dan James” in comparison to the Manchester United winger, who scored in three of his first four league games for the Red Devils:
