Many Aston Villa fans are reacting to a tweet and article from The Athletic journalist Gregg Evans, in which he says that Trezeguet is the Premier League’s ‘unluckiest’ player this season.
The Egyptian only has one assist so far this season in the top flight. He also squandered a massive opportunity to level the scores against West Ham on Monday (SofaScore).
Despite this, he has produced a decent attacking threat, managing 2.4 shots, one key pass and 1.1 successful dribbles per game (WhoScored).
Therefore, Evans’ argument has plenty of evidence to back it up, and the journalist further explained that the 26 year-old has the the highest expected goals (xG) of all non-scorers from open play, which is certainly a rather remarkable statistic.
It is understandable that some fans will remain frustrated with the player. They will want him to be scoring a lot more. However, others seem to believe that luck is just not on his side at the moment and hopefully that will turn soon.
Here is what fans had to say about Trezeguet:
I’d written him off last season until his goals helped keep us up and then seeing how hard he works I’m a big fan. Hope he puts a few away soon, more for his confidence than anything else, it’ll come.

He’s missed 2 open goals in the last 2 games Gregg which have cost us ! Tries hard but so he should! He’s not good enough unfortunately!

Thanks Gregg. I think if you combine the attitude and work ethic we all see, with the data you share, it is clear that we need to support Trez and that he can continue to evolve into a really important player for us UTV

Having the highest xG of all non-scorers suggests he’s very wasteful

As @danbardell pointed out too that we look “poor” when Trezzy comes off. Hopefully he can go back to finishing his dinner. He’s what I’d call a “clutch player”. https://t.co/d6VzjmhXar

I like him but high xG with a poor goals return means he is a poor finisher not unlucky, so basically the opposite of what you tweeted.
